Biden Attempts to Fix Relationship with Mexico

The Biden administration is sending three Cabinet members and White House officials to Mexico to reconstruct its relationship with the country — a crucial move amid an influx of border crossings and drug and gun trafficking. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Attorney General Merrick Garland plan on visiting Mexico sometime this week for the first U.S.-Mexico High Level Security Dialogue, indicating the Biden administration is restoring security cooperation. DHS Continues to Review Failures at Border

Three officials said the U.S. was aware thousands of Haitians were likely headed to the southern border amid upheaval in Haiti, but did not share that information, leading to immigration officials to incorrectly handle 28,000 migrants last month. The officials said DHS acknowledged its failures internally and plans to be prepared in the future. According to two officials, progressives and other DHS officials fought over when to begin deporting the migrants. The the progressives won, which delayed the flights. NBC News

GOP Governors Release 10-Point Immigration Plan

Ten Republican governors have released 10-point immigration plan for the Biden administration to stop what they call an unchecked “border crisis.” Their 10-point plan includes continuing Title 42 expulsions, reintroducing the Migrant Protection Protocols, and  completing the wall at the southern border. The group was among 26 governors who sent Biden a letter on Sept. 20 requesting a meeting to discuss the influx of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. Border Report
