Republicans blocked Senate Democrats’ proposal Wednesday that would fast track a bill to grant Venezuelans Temporary Protected Status. Sens. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) were behind the bill that would’ve granted Venezuelans the ability to live and work legally in the U.S. for limited time without fear of deportation. They attempted to pass it using unanimous consent, but Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) blocked the bill’s passage on behalf of Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee, the Miami Herald reports. Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden criticized Republicans for blocking the bill, which was co-authored by two Florida lawmakers: Republican Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart and Democratic Rep. Darren Soto. The Miami Herald
