Over thirty activists gathered in front of New Jersey’s Hudson County jail on Saturday for about three hours, demanding that ICE release the remaining immigrants at the facility and not transfer them to jails out of state. Activists banded together at some of the entrances and exits of the facility, laying across the ground to prevent vehicles from going through. Officials said last month that as of Nov. 1, Hudson County will no longer hold detained immigrants. About ten law enforcement officials with shields arrived at the protest and lined up behind the activists blocking entrances. Some corrections officials spoke in Spanish back to the activists, and a few tense conversations ensued, though the demonstration remained peaceful. Ruth Tenecela’s brother, Segundo, is one of many detainees at the facility that is concerned about being transferred. Her hope, she said in Spanish, was that they “let him free.” Giulia McDonnell Nieto del Rio for Documented

Rensselaer County Jail Abusing an ICE Detainee, Protestors Say

Dozens of protestors gathered outside of Troy, New York’s sheriff’s office to call out the alleged physical abuse of Q, an immigrant detainee at Rensselaer County Jail. Q has allegedly faced medical neglect and unsanitary conditions at the facility, where she and four other immigrant women are being held. On Sept. 9, a coalition of immigrant rights groups filed a civil rights complaint on behalf of Q’s allegations with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. According to Q’s lawyer Sophia Genovese, Q has allegedly faced retaliation and was threatened with deportation by federal and county representatives after the complaint. Times Union

The 51-year-old victim who was robbed of his e-bike and stabbed to death near Sara D. Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side at 1 a.m. Saturday was a food delivery worker. ABC NY reported the Grubhub worker was delivering food when he was suddenly attacked. He was the 11th delivery worker killed on the job this year. A recent report shows that 54% of delivery workers have reported being robbed, with 36% saying they were assaulted while being robbed. Delivery workers, who are largely immigrants, have been consistently fighting for justice for the increased theft of e-bikes in the city. CBS2NewYork
