Send Chinatown Love announced Monday that it launched a microgrant program to support small businesses facing financial difficulties or looking to expand their operations. The initiative provides emergency funding for unexpected expenses, such as flood damage, sudden revenue loss, or emergency repairs, as well as grants for business development, including updated menus, new point-of-sale (POS) systems, and upgraded signage.
“This microgrant program was inspired by the resilience of the merchants Send Chinatown Love is in contact with — we’ve seen these small businesses weather rising rents, emergency repairs, policy changes, and increased supply costs. And we’ve seen the leaps of faith they’ve taken by purchasing new signage, hiring more staff, upgrading equipment, and trying to reach new audiences because they believe in their business,” the organization stated in a statement.
“We believe in them too, and this microgrant is one small way we can help make these dreams a reality.”
Any small business can apply for the grant, which will be $500 or $1,000. The application process is open on a rolling basis until May 15, or until funding is fully distributed. Grants are reviewed and disbursed biweekly. Applicants typically receive a response within two to three weeks. Approved businesses will receive funds within two weeks of acceptance. Businesses can receive the funds via bank transfer or physical check, though cash and Venmo payments are not available.
Understanding the language barriers some small business owners may face, Send Chinatown Love offers translation support. Applicants can email hello@sendchinatownlove.com to connect with a translator, and the application form itself can be translated using browser tools. A step-by-step photo guide is also provided to assist with the process.
