June is Caribbean American Heritage Month, a national observance that recognizes the rich history, culture and contributions of Caribbean Americans. Officially established by presidential proclamation in 2006, the month honors generations of Caribbean immigrants who have shaped the social, cultural, and economic landscape of the United States.

New York City, which is home to the largest Caribbean population in the country, plays a central role in the celebrations. More than one million New Yorkers trace their roots to the Caribbean, with vibrant communities hailing from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Barbados and many more. From Flatbush in Brooklyn to Little Guyana in Queens, the rhythms, cuisines and traditions of the islands have become beautifully woven into the tapestry of New York City.

Throughout June, communities and organizations across New York are hosting a variety of events to commemorate Caribbean American Heritage Month. From cultural showcases, to poetry readings, music festivals, panel discussions, and award ceremonies, here are some not-to-be-missed events celebrating the creativity, resilience, and global influence of Caribbean Americans.
