President Trump has had a big role in upending the U.S.’s immigration system during his four years in office. President-elect Joe Biden plans to reverse those actions starting his first day in office, Marielena Hincapie, executive director of the National Immigration Law Center, told Good Morning America. Some of Biden’s priorities include putting 11 million undocumented people on a path to U.S. citizenship and changing Americans’ negative attitudes on immigration. To do so, Hincapie said Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris need to both enact executive actions and work with Congress to pass pro-immigrant legislation. Yahoo News

Biden May Reverse Citizenship Test Changes

Starting Dec. 1, immigrants hoping to become U.S. citizens will have to pass a harder civics exam. Instead of answering just 10 questions, they’ll face 20 harder ones, and have more potential questions to prepare for. “Naturalization allows immigrants to become fully vested members of American society,” and prepares them for the “rights and responsibilities” that come with that, Joseph Edlow, head of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, said in defending the changes. But Daniela Carrion, an immigration attorney with the Linesch Law Firm, said the changes are meant to weed out poorer, less educated immigrants. Carrion also suggested Biden could undo the new citizenship questions when he arrives in office. WSTP.com
