Living in New York City isn’t cheap — but getting around doesn’t have to break the bank. Through the Fair Fares NYC program, eligible residents can get a 50% discount on subway and certain bus fares. If you’re between 18 and 64 years old and meet the program’s income guidelines, you might qualify. Anyone living in the city – regardless of their immigration status – can apply.
Fair Fares NYC helps low-income New Yorkers access public transportation at an affordable rate. Qualified applicants pay $1.45 instead of $2.90 per ride on subways, ferries and local, limited, or Select Bus Service routes. Access-A-Ride (for people with disabilities whose disability prevents their use of accessible mass transit) are also eligible for half-price paratransit fares.
