Here are some organizations that provide resources relating to housing, name change, legal representation, information about rights, and more.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center offers an array of resources, ranging from housing to legal representation for immigrants, to all residents of New York City. The organization hosts a variety of events that celebrate the history of the communities in the City.

Trans Legal Defense and Education Fund (TLDEF)
Aside from offering resources that support the rights of transgender people, TLDEF connects low-income people with pro-bono lawyers to assist with legal name changes. Additionally, the organization specializes in ensuring that transgender and non-binary people can access trans-related healthcare that they need.

The Ali Forney Center offers housing services to homeless LGBT youth facing housing insecurity in NYC. The center provides educational resources and workshops to address safe sex and HIV prevention. The organization offers transformative resources that pairs youth with mentors, career counselors, skill training and more.

Sage: Advocacy & Services for LGBT Elders
LGBT residents of ages 60 and over can receive assistance related to case management, benefits and entitlements, bereavement support, along with support groups for women, HIV positive people, cancer survivors, and more from this NYC-based organization.

The organization offers mentoring programs that empower LGBTQ+ members in NYC. Other services include pro-bono legal counseling, information relating to HIV, and help navigating the healthcare system.

The Audre Lorde Project is an organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ people of color in New York City. ALP’s community organizing working groups tackle issues affecting LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness, such as the criminal justice system, trans rights, healthcare, employment, education, and immigration concerns.

Hetrick Martin Institute provides a wide range of direct services for LGBTQ youth, and an extended set of services for those experiencing homelessness. These services range from education and workforce training, to health and counseling services, to arts programming, to housing placement services.

The Caribbean Equality Project is a Queens-based organization that empowers Black and Brown Caribbean immigrants in New York City who are LGBTQ. The group advocates for queer and trans asylum seekers in NYC and leads educational and cultural programming.

Colectivo Intercultural TRANSgrediendo
Colectivo Intercultural Transgrediendo offers a variety of educational programs aimed to empower TransGNB people in New York City. Some of their services include empowerment workshops, HIV prevention, legal representation support, and others.

Callen-Lorde is the leader in providing health care services to LGBTQ people globally. The services are available regardless one’s ability to pay. Some of the services provided include dental, behavioral, case management, and more. They have three locations located in Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Manhattan.

The TransLatinx Network supports all transgender people in New York. They offer a blend of case management, referrals and prevention to support the community’s healthcare needs and weekly bilingual groups that range from ESL classes to support for mothers and children. They also host a Manhattan food pantry.

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project is a legal aid group that serves transgender people of color. They provide direct representation for people who need help with their immigration status or to change their name and seek other gender-affirming actions. They also advocate for incarcerated people who need trans-competent representation.
